In economics, the term "opportunity cost," is a fancy phrase for "trade-off." Every time you make a choice, there is a trade-off to consider. With each decision you make, you have to analyze what you are gaining as well as what you may be giving up.
What trade-offs to Christ have you chosen recently? The time we spend complaining, worrying, fearing and doubting is time we are not using communing with God. The more time we spend with God, the less time we spend in unhappiness, uncertainty and grief.
When making any decision, choose to come before God boldly and with confidence (1 John 5:14) believing that He is your source. Trust that He will supply all your needs (Philippians 4:19) and provide you with a surplus.
Source:
“… but those who drink the water that I will give them will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give them will become in them a spring which will provide them with life-giving water and give them eternal life." – John 4:14 ESV
God is our source. When we make people our source, we become sad when they ultimately leave us. When we make money our source, we become depressed when we do not have it. When we make drugs, alcohol and sex our source we become despondent when the high is over. But when we make God our source, we will never run out of love, hope and happiness.
Supply:
“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:19 NIV
When we find ourselves in need financially, emotionally and spiritually we oftentimes seek worldly solutions to Godly problems. Our unbelief and impatience can lead to bad decisions. Before we were formed in the womb, God knew what we would need at this exact moment in our lives (Jeremiah 1:5). So, do not be angry by God’s perceived absence and do not take His presence for granted. Our heavenly Father knows what we need and will provide for us if we only believe (Matthew 6:32).
Surplus:
“Indeed, you will receive a full measure, a generous helping, poured into your hands--all that you can hold.” – Luke 6:38 GNT
With God as our source and supplier, our responsibility shifts from trying to figure out how we are going to survive the pain and disappointment to figuring out how we are going to use the surplus of blessings God is about to bestow upon us. In all you do, honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce, then your life will be filled with plenty, and you will receive an overflow of God’s goodness (Proverbs 3:10).
It costs to be you. There are some things that you have survived that would have killed someone else. Therefore, choose to live your life in a manner that will bring glory to the God who has brought you this far.
