“Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” – Luke 22:42

What do you have left after you’ve given your all to a job and still get laid off? What do you have left when you dedicate yourself to a relationship that ends prematurely? What do you have left when you have more bills than money and more fear than faith? During trying times, we often feel as if depression, anxiety, grief and doubt are all we’re left with. As believers, we are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.

Living in lost and uncertainty is stressful, but Bishop TD Jakes once said, “God’s blessings aren’t in what you lost, they’re in what you have left.

The blessing isn’t in the person who left you or job you lost. It’s not in the doctor’s report, setback you’ve experienced or mistakes you’ve made. The blessings are in what you have left - your family and friends, the life in your body, the money you do have, the roof over your head and the clothes on your back. If you look around and count your blessings, you’ll see God in every detail of your life.

So, endure the shame, accept the loss and acknowledge the disappointments while submitting yourself to God. For the Lord declared, “I will repay you for what you lost… You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, who has dealt wondrously with you. And my people shall never again be put to shame.”

Do not focus on what you lost, instead praise God for what you have left.
